Hi all!
Hope all of you are doing great!. Today, I have a mixed media layout to share with you. Yes! finally the wish came true :).
I started crafting with nylon flowers, crotchet, glass painting , fabric painting and quilling. But now I'm into paper crafts a lot. Especially after learning "Stamping" I discovered a whole lot of related crafts, of which mixed media became a must try one for me. But I also discovered, that it needs a lot of special tools. Of which, gesso, stencil and a modelling paste are a must. Seeing some you tube tutorials, I learned even the gesso and modelling paste can be prepared at home. So the very basic tool will be a stencil. But there are also projects without using stencils.
Since I wanted some textured bg for mixed media I got a Memory box dispersed stencil for my stash and also modelling paste. For coloring I used my distress inks and poster colours. But after trying for the first time, I really liked to work with a stencil and modelling paste. I'm sure those of you haven't tried, will love it once you do. Of course you'll have to be ready to get your hands dirty :). An important lesson I learned after doing this project is "patience" :).
Okay, no more bla bla..:) Here's my layout:
That is my little one on his walker. All those gorgeous yellow and blue petaloo flowers are from dear Grace. She had sent me a surprise giveaway which included them. Thank you so much Grace!
I coated a light blue CS with generous coats of gesso after distressing the sides with a metal scale I tried it for the first time. It gave good results. But takes time. I think you can use a sand paper too, saw it somewhere!
I waited for the gesso to dry between every coat. Layered a blue lace and then again coated with gesso. And then I used the stencil and modelling paste on the sides randomly. After which I used my distress ink faded jeans on the stencil design. Then came my poster colours which brought out the turquoise blue, I used some baby wipes to create that bg, and then used the Fiskars texture stamp by masking it partly to create a simple design on the turquoise bg.
A close up of the details.
Thanks to the many tutorials posted on you tube! The tutorials posted by lulupu's design team was also very helpful. Thank you all :).
Also a big Thanks to all those who suggested me good inks. I used the
archival ink jet black for this sentiment and so happy with the result
:).
